Food Waste Recycling Solutions

Food waste recycling service for customers looking for a simple and efficient way to improve recycling performance, achieve environmental compliance and control costs.

Food waste recycling from the packaged and unpackaged food waste that we collect is sent to a processing plant where it is either broken down in a temperature controlled vessel until sterile, the end product is used by farmers in the UK as cost effective fertilisers high in nutrient or used to is processed to produce electricity. This makes sure that none of the food waste recycling decomposes, which would give off large qualities of methane that is damaging the atmosphere.

The option of food waste recycling is an ideal solution for business in the hospitality industry such as hotels, restaurants, shops, gastropubs, pubs, supermarkets or any business that produces large amounts of food waste.

Food waste recycling methods currently used :

In-vessel composting

This process involves mixing food waste with garden waste – shredding it and then composting it in an enclosed system for about 2-4 weeks (temperatures of up to 70°C speed up the process and ensure any harmful microbes are killed off). The material is then left outside to mature for a further 1-3 months with regular turning and checks to ensure quality before going on to be used as soil conditioner.

Anaerobic Digestion

This process uses micro-organisms to break down food waste, animal manure, slurries and energy crops in the absence of oxygen, inside an enclosed system. As it breaks down it gives off methane, which is collected and converted into biogas and used to generate electricity, heat or transport fuels. It also creates a nutrient-rich digestate that can be used as a fertiliser for agriculture and in land regeneration.
